Team Competition
Apple Athletic Club wholeheartedly supports the league programs of the USTA. These are nationwide programs with advancement paths that allow some of our players to play against different opponents at the state, regional and at times national level. In the years past a number of adult club member teams have advanced all the way to the national championships. In a youth team event that did not have a national but only two multi-regional championships that year the Apple Athletic Club team not only won the event but also took team sportsmanship honors along the way.

Tennis Community and
Industry Involvement
Apple Athletic Club Tennis Department management and members
have been and still are heavily involved at various levels of the tennis
community and tennis industry. The Board of Directors of the Idaho Falls
Community Tennis Association consists almost exclusively of club members.
Members serve on the USTA/Idaho Tennis Association Board of Directors and its
committees as well as the USTA/Intermountain Section committees. Tennis
Director Holger Nickel has served as President of the USTA/Idaho Tennis
Association, the USTA/Intermountain Section and as President of the United
States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) Intermountain Division. He has
also been on the USTA National Executive Committee and is currently involved
with the USTA National Junior Competition Committee.
Equipment
Apple Athletic Club through its Tennis Director is
affiliated with Wilson Sporting Goods. Samples
of the newest racquets are always on hand for you to try out. You may also
purchase the racquet of your choice directly from the Tennis Director.
There are several individuals in the greater Idaho Falls area who are
stringing racquets. Currently, Tollan Whitlock is a certified stringer who
receives all the work on club and staff racquets. Racquets to be strung may be
left with the Receptionist/Administrator and can usually be picked up within 24
hours.
Community Service
Annually, Apple Athletic Club joins with the Idaho Falls
Parks & Recreation Department and the Idaho Falls Community Tennis
Association to provide a three-day free camp for beginning and intermediate
junior players. It is used as a kick-off for the junior summer programs in the
area. This camp is generously sponsored by The Post
Register & Key Bank.
Help Inc. Pro/Am
Fundraiser
With title sponsorship provided by the Bank of Idaho our annual Pro/Am fundraiser to benefit
Help, Inc., the local Child Abuse Prevention Center (CAP) has been a huge
success. Over the years checks totaling more than $50,000.00 have been donated
to this worthy cause. Between 20 and 30 tennis professionals, mostly teaching
professionals, convene on a weekend in October to play with our members to
benefit this great cause. Professionals have included players with ATP and WTA
points and even Luke Jensen, the former French Open Doubles Champion. The event
is the highlight of our social calendar.
