boogalooFIT 4 Week Fitness Challenge Feature Story: Ashley MoralesBy: Nikki Gianchetta
After completing the boogalooFIT 4 Week Fitness Challenge, Ashely
Morales, a 4th grade student at Fox Hollow Elementary stated, “I'm happy
because I have lost weight and because I made my goal!!!” Prior to the
4 week challenge, Ashley was not involved in regular physical
activity. This goal not only involved committing to exercising 4 times a
week for a minimum of 30 minutes for a month, but also tracking how
she felt the physical activity impacted her physical and emotional
health. In addition to losing weight, Ashley commented she felt “more
happy and fit”. During the 4 weeks, Ashley progressively tracked
feeling “less stressed” and “more positive about life”. After just her
second week of involvement in her goal, Ashley wrote, “I feel happy
because I burned 826 calories in a day.” Some of the physical fitness
activities Ashley participated in included boogalooKIDZ dance aerobics,
soccer, volleyball, sledding, and even playing wii sports. She was
excited and surprised that in 4 weeks she burned a grand total of 4,847
calories. Ashley's enthusiasm and diligence is truly inspirational and
can encourage all of us that no matter what point we are at in our
fitness goals, we can all make a decision to recommit to improve our
health and wellness. |

boogalooFIT 4 Week Fitness Challenge Feature Story: Brendan Levan
By: Nikki Gianchetta
Brendan Levan, a 16 year old high school student attending Skyline High School, recently participated in the boogalooFIT 4 Week Fitness Challenge. The boogalooFIT 4 Week Fitness Challenge is a goal setting program available at no charge to encourage health and wellness. It involves more than just exercising a minimum of 4 times a week for at least 30 minutes. Participants track physical activity and calories burned daily, and weekly evaluate their goal progress which may include stress level, attitude, and weight loss weekly. Brendan's successful completion of his exercise goal causes him stand out as an example to youth and community members throughout the area. Brendan lost 7 lbs in 4 weeks and admitted that he “felt a lot better” after completing the challenge. He said that people noticed he was losing weight and admitted to feeling more comfortable with himself. When asked how he did it, Brendan said he got involved in some of his favorite activities such as basketball, biking, and he used the elliptical. When asked if he thought he could accomplish this goal prior to starting, he immediately replied, “No way!!” because he considered himself “lazy.”
Brendan's success is inspiring and he hasn't stopped there. He is currently working on completing his second 4 week fitness challenge goal. Brendan shared great advice to anyone who would like to participate in the 4 week challenge but may feel intimidated or discouraged. Whether to lose weight, feel better about yourself, or to become more physically fit Brendan says, “Just try. You never know until you try.”
