Pursuit of Excellence Duathlon

Run Away from home this summer at the third annual Pursuit of Excellence Duathlon (formerly Biathlon) Saturday, July 28th, 2007.  This 5K run, 25K cycle, and 5K run is even bigger and better than before.  We have over $500 in cash prizes, a Black Swan Luxury Theme Suite giveaway, gift certificates, Free pre-race dinner from Johnny Carino's and much more!  Come to compete or just to participate as an idividual or team.  Better yet, 100% or the proceeds will benefit the Pearl House Youth Corps.  Their mission is to empower adoescents with the necessary leadership, academic, and social skills through contributing their time and talents to the community.  These youth will not only plan and prepare part of this event, they will also compete.  We invite the Community, especially club members, to meet us at the finish!  The following is information regarding the race:

Registration:

  • Entry Fee: T-shirt, goody bag, post race refreshments, massage therapy & pre-race dinner included.
  • Individual: $24
  • Team: 2 Person $50
  • Pre-registration due July 10m 2007.  Registration received after this date is subject to availability.  Only those who pre-register will recieve t-shirt and pre-race dinner. (no same day registration)

  • Packet pick up is Friday July 27 from 12pm - 2pm and 6pm-8pm in the Apple Athletic Club Gymnasium.
  • Day of Race: Check in at 7:30am

Divisons:

  • Individual Competitors: Male & Female, High School (14-18), 19-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, & 60+
  • Team: Male, Female, and Coed.  Teams consist of two persons.  1 person for any 1 stage and the other team member for the other 2 stages.

Requirements:  Course consists of three stages: 5K run, 25K bike - stage two, and 5K run - stage three.  Cyclists are individually responsible for racking their own bikes pre/post race.  Volunteers will assist you during transitional phases.  No drafting on the bike course, bike helmets are REQUIRED and are to be furnished by each competitor.  Each participant is also required to wear completed bib number with the appropriate information.  Each bike must have an attached bib.  Helmets  must be SNELL/ANSL approved or CPSC certified.  Helmet must be fastened before saddling onto the bike and may only be unfastened after dismount.  Team participants finishing their stage of the race must tag their partner in the transitional phase.  Leave equipment unattended at your own risk of loss.

Awards:  Awards will be distributed to top 3 finishers in each age, gender, and team division.  Cash prizes will be awarded to the top overall Male, Female, and Team finishers.  Awards ceremony will follow the race at the forebay.  Door prizes will be announced at that time.

Pre-Race Dinner:  A pre-race dinner catered by Johnny Carino's is free for all race participants and will be help at Apple Athletic Club Gymnasium July 27, 2007.  Dinner time is 6pm - 8pm.  Family members are welcome, price for non-racers is $5/person and children under 10 years of age are free.
